Celebrating 60 Years of Curiosity, Creativity & Community

Here Since 1965
This year, Montessori School of Yakima celebrates a milestone that matters—not just to our campus, but to the whole community. Since 1965, MSY has welcomed Yakima children into classrooms designed for wonder, independence, and joyful learning.
Our recent Alumni Social reminded us that MSY is more than a school; it’s a family that spans decades. Thank you to everyone who came to reconnect, share stories, and celebrate what began in 1965 and still thrives today.
“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.” — Dr. Maria Montessori
What 60 Years Means for Our Students
Child-Centered Learning: Respecting each learner’s pace and interests.
Prepared Environments: Beautiful, purposeful spaces that invite independence.
Mixed-Age Community: Older students lead; younger students look up and grow.
Hands-On to Abstract: Materials first, mastery next—so understanding sticks.
Care for Self, Others, and the World: Practical life, grace & courtesy, and stewardship.
Through the Decades
While tools and technologies have changed, our purpose hasn’t: to nurture capable, compassionate, and curious learners. Generations of MSY students have carried these values into their families, neighborhoods, workplaces, and the broader Yakima community.
With gratitude for the last six decades—and excitement for what’s ahead—thank you for being part of the MSY story since 1965.
